DNS tooling for BIND 9

1x0.us

Two small tools for running BIND 9 โ€” built because hand-editing zone files is a chore.

๐ŸŒ ZoneForge

A web-based BIND 9 zone editor. Point, click, edit โ€” no terminal required.

  • Point-and-click zone editing
  • No install โ€” just open the browser
zoneforge.1x0.us
example.com primary
example.org secondary
internal.lan primary
Open ZoneForge โ†’

โš™๏ธ BindConfig

A keyword-driven declarative compiler for BIND 9. Describe your zones in YAML; get valid named.conf out.

  • Mixins, TSIG keys & DNSSEC policies
  • Validate & autocomplete in your IDE
zsh
$ bindconfig -s /etc/bindconfig -o /etc/bind/named.conf.local
Visit BindConfig โ†’

Which one is for you?
Editing zone records in a browser โ†’ ZoneForge.
Config-as-code for your `named.conf.local` file โ†’ BindConfig.
Lots of folks use both.

Why I built these

Because hand-editing zone files is the worst. Serial bumps, TSIG keys, DNSSEC policies โ€” one misplaced brace at 2 a.m. is all it takes to take a domain down.

So I built ZoneForge for the nights I'd rather click my way through a zone, and BindConfig for the days I want my zones described as data and compiled into something named-checkconf can't complain about.

$ dig _infra.1x0.us TXT +short
"i got tired of editing zone files by hand"

Decorative โ€” though we could make it a real TXT record.
